Happy Day Before Thanksgiving!

So much to be thankful for! Some of the best parts of this week:

  1. Food
  2. Football
  3. Shopping

Food:

I’m sure everyone’s family has their own recipes for each dish, and I’m sure they are delicious! The only recipe I want to share is one for fresh cranberry sauce, because jelly in a can does not cut it for me, and this one is really easy:

12 ounce bag of cranberries

1 cup of sugar

2 tablespoons of water

1 lemon or orange for zest

1 can of mandarin oranges

Directions:

Empty a 12-ounce bag of fresh or frozen cranberries into a saucepan and transfer 1/2 cup to a small bowl. Add 1 cup sugar, 1 strip orange or lemon zest and 2 tablespoons water to the pan and cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves and the cranberries are soft, about 10 minutes. Increase the heat to medium and cook until the cranberries burst, about 12 minutes. Reduce the heat to low and stir in the reserved cranberries. Add in mandarin oranges at the end.

The Thanksgiving Day line up:

Shopping:

Black Friday and the day after Christmas are by far the best days to shop. Here are a few tips to actually have a successful day and not slap anyone while you’re at it:

First, avoid the masses. There are a couple ways to do this: the cyber sales, which are great but you can’t try things on. Or, my plan of attack is to go at 10 am, when the crazies have already been up for six hours and leaving. I arrive well rested and ready to find some good deals.

Next, decide on what you need. Whether it’s a few more sweaters or gifts to jump start the holiday season, having some sort of list makes the whole day less overwhelming.

Last, decide on a budget. It’s easy to get tempted to purchase an amazing leather jacket on sale, but just because it is on sale doesn’t mean you have to buy it (…or does it…).

Here are the best deals to look out for (via Racked.com):

Anthropologie: Gift “poppers” will be handed out in-store, with each popper containing varying levels of gifts from something “just because” to a $500 Anthropologie gift card.

Bloomingdale’s: Up to 50% off select items between now and Sunday, November 30th.

Express: Take 50% off everything in-store and online now through noon on Friday, November 28th.

Gap: Take 50% off everything in-store and online.

H&M: Up to 70% off select items now through Sunday, November 29th. Deals from $4.95 and scratch-offs valued up to $300 for the first 100 shoppers in store.

J Crew: Take an extra 40% of sale styles.

Lucky Brand: Take 40% off everything in-store and online.

Macy’s: Door-busters until noon. Free People, Rachel Roy and Bar III are great brands to lookout for.

Happy Shopping!

Bottoms up to everything we have to be thankful for,

Jay
